The sacrificial goats, killed after being beheaded, sometimes skinned as well, end up in Narak, their lifeless carcasses floating in the putrid waters of Vaitarani, which fills their bodies up with pus and blood and raises them from the dead.
In Narak, these lesser beings who were once killed for elaborate rituals performed by the priests, now themselves become priests for the blood rituals of atonement. They are the overseers of Yamduts as they perform different acts of punishment, while they chant the lines from the holy Garud Puran and drink the blood from the human bodies which bleed from all the wounds being inflicted upon them.
[The story behind the artwork:
A few days ago, I was out with my girlfriend and her mother, buying mutton for her birthday dinner. There were skinned and bloodied goat heads kept at one side of the shop. And one guy was breaking a goat skull open. I noticed the skull, the nostrils and the overall design of the structure, the flesh and the blood and it all seemed like good starting points for some design exploration! So, came back home the next day and started scribbling this face and as I went along, the story kept forming, so, ended up making him a priest to take revenge on the sacrificial killing of his kind. This is a fictional character and is not mentioned in any actual text.]
