ASIAGRAPH 2021 Wining Artwork

News / 27 April 2022

Hi everyone!
Sharing a bit of a happy news I got a few days back.

My submission has secured the first place, one of the joint Best Works position, in ASIAGRAPH 2021 TOKYO. It's an online exhibition of CG artworks of artists from all Asian countries.
I was probably the only one representing India and it's nice to be acknowledged among many more artists from other Asian countries.

Finally got my 2020 Concept Art Award trophy!!!

News / 11 June 2021
So, finally, after almost nine months, having once returned from Bangalore, gone all the way back to USA and then sent again, this reached my hands today. The trophy for winning in the Excellence in Fan Art category in the 2020 Concept Art Awards, organized by Concept Art Association and presented by Lightbox Expo

Once again, I express my gratitude to the organizers and judges. And thanks everyone on my tiny ArtStation circle for the love and support. :)

Got featured at IAMAG inspiration section!!!

News / 31 May 2021

Hey everyone!

This being my second blog post in almost a year, I hope someone will see this at least! :D

So, the amazing people at IAMAG.CO featured my work at their Inspiration section, and that feels pretty amazing. I've looked at all the amazing artists' work in that section for years now, being both inspired and frustrated. It feels unreal to be present there among people I admire.

I've been busy with client work, been away from my personal stuff and interacting with other artists here. Will come back soon. Have agreat week ahead you all! :)

So I won the Concept Art Award 2020 in Excellence in Fan Art!!!

News / 14 September 2020
Hi everyone!
So, taking my time to process this properly, still can't believe it just happened. I've won the Concept Art Award 2020 for the Fan Art category, in the show hosted by Concept Art Association and Lightbox Expo. And, the man called Raf Grassetti, art director of Sony Santa Monica studios and the latest God of War title, announced my name as the winner, which still feels unreal. Among the other judges, were, Iain McCaig, Andy Park, Peter Han and Sparth Nicolas Bouvier...all legends of the art world. This is incredibly humbling and just honestly, unbelievable. Thank you for selecting my work.
Thanks to everyone who voted in the first phase. Thanks for all the good wishes.

Concept Art Awards 2020: Fan Art: Finalist Nomination

News / 25 August 2020
Hi everyone!
This feels unbelievable, yet, I have been selected as a finalist in the 2020 Concept Art Awards, organized by Concept Art Association and Lightbox Expo, a Digital Art Festival.
I'm one of the 3 finalists in the Fan Art category. And a part of some of the most incredible and absolutely amazing artists from this planet, across 18 categories, who are being nominated for excellence in art for films, TV shows, games and independent projects, like, Klaus, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian,  The Last of Us II, etc.
Also, the finalists were selected by a panel of judges, including Ian McCaig, the legend himself, Andy Park, Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, Rafael Grassetti, Art Director at Santa Monica Studio, and others whom I am in absolute awe of and have been following for the last few years. Can't believe these people sorted through all the submissions and selected mine among the finalists.
Thank you for your votes, that was also considered before the final selection. Thank you for all the love and support.
The finals will be held on September 12 in Hollywood, California, live-streamed from the Gnomon School of VFX and Animation, as a part of the LightBox Expo, and the winners across all categories will be announced.
Thrilled, elated, humbled and honoured.

Blog 001: How to quickly sketch ideas using photos

Tutorial / 10 August 2020

So, from time to time, I try doing these quick sketches. Usually, starts while looking at a photo and seeing something more to it! :D Like, a mountain turns into a huge ruin of a pyramid, or an alien craft crash site materializes out of an empty desert. I'll take that photo, usually low-res, so I don't get into detailing everything later, and then start sketching over it, do some color and light adjustments, and try to establish a mood very early one. These would usually take me around an hour.

Sketch:

Step 01: Cut all the different layers I was going to make, and separate them to add depth to the image.

Step 02: Making the sky.

Step 03: Making the rest, following the same process of gradually adding depth, and simplifying the shapes, reduce the photo-details and introducing brush marks. And adding some concept art birds for scale is a must! :D

I want to keep sharing little blog posts like this, and share the thought and steps behind some of my artworks.  Hope this helps someone who might be trying to do something like this. Let me know if you found this useful, would love to connect to more people!

I'll go back to sketching and learning more now! :)
