Professor Shonku and the Blood Fish Mystery

"At that moment, in the circle of the searchlight, I saw something glittering on the seabed. I looked at Hamakura and saw that he too was looking at it. He turned the steering wheel and moved the ship towards it. As I moved closer to the window, I realized it was an ornate brass cannon, about four feet long. It wasn't difficult to guess that it had once belonged to a ship, and that it had sunk to the bottom of the sea along with it.
So, were the remains of that ship also somewhere nearby?
I felt a wild excitement within me. Judging by the appearance of the cannon, it was at least three or four hundred years old. Was it a Mughal ship, a Dutch ship, or a British ship?
Hamakura turned the ship's steering wheel again. The searchlight beam also turned with it, and as it did, the ship came into view, looking like the skeleton of some gigantic sea creature. A mast here, a part of the rudder there, some rusted old steel framework exposed like ribs, and various metal objects and trinkets of different sizes scattered on the seabed. Evidence of an ancient shipwreck was everywhere. Whether the cause of the accident was a storm or a battle, I didn't know, nor was there any way to find out.
Meanwhile, Tanaka had also gotten out of bed and was standing by the window, breathlessly watching the scene outside.
I woke up Abinash Babu. His eyes widened in astonishment at the sight down below.''
- Professor Shonku and the Mystery of the Blood Fish, Satyajit Ray

The world of Prof. Shonku was my earliest introduction to science fiction and storybooks in general. For the longest time, I have reopened the book again and again to travel alongside this fascinating old Bengali scientist on his exhilarating adventures and wanted badly to see him on screen, in the production quality that the stunning imagery and designs of Mr. Ray deserves. This will be a lifelong pursuit, a tribute to the genius of Satyajit Ray.
